Comments about JET B3NCH, JJP-10BTOS, 10-in Benchtop Planer/Jointer Combo:
The machine is a good design except for the fence not movable and the knifes are disposable (one use). The knifes set easily with a one-way dial indicator for a 100.00.

Comments about JET B3NCH, JJP-10BTOS, 10-in Benchtop Planer/Jointer Combo:
I am happy that I purchased this tool. I remodel historic homes and enjoy restoring classic wooden boats. My work trailer is a mobile wood shop, and the light weight, power, and compactness of the Jet allow me to carry a lot of capability in a small space. If you are a professional woodworker that owns a wood shop, you know the irritation of having to run back to the shop to use the planer or the jointer. Now, you don't have to. This isn't going to replace your heavy shop tools, but it will do a good job when you are on site and run into a small to mediuum amount of planing or jointing.

Jet should read their own instructions.I worked for the Japanese and their manual reads like a translation from one language to english. Get your sequence in order and give better details of adjustments. Once completed, the machine works fine

Comments about JET B3NCH, JJP-10BTOS, 10-in Benchtop Planer/Jointer Combo:
I have owned this machine for about a year now and I love it.I will admit that when I first got it I wasn't too sure.Yes you will have to make some adjustments. The tables were not coplane right out of the box and because of the hasle of coplaning the tables,I never adjust the joiner depth of cut.I have to agree that the dust collector is not of the best design but I have adapted to it.All in all it has performed very well for me and I do use it a lot.I would certainly recommend this product to a friend.

Comments about JET B3NCH, JJP-10BTOS, 10-in Benchtop Planer/Jointer Combo:
This is a pretty nice product. I have read about many cons: plastic knobs, bed not level/warped, instructions bad, yada, yada, yada. The biggest problem I had was that one of the nut bags was cut open and nuts, bolts, and washers were everywhere in the box. A quick sort, and that was fixed. A few washers got stuck to the tape in the bottom of the box...I was about to call Jet for more...They were there with the obligitory 1-2 extra.
Assembly went quicker than I thought. I agree with the comment on not tightening the bottom frame per instructions until the unit is mounted, bolted and tightened...Thanks for the advice there. Also, I read that they shift gears in the instructions from assembly to operation and reference knobs/levers as different letters than in assembly. I agree that is a little issue until you get used to the controls name. Just go with the names, and it helps.
The plastic knobs are sort of questionable, but appear very sturdy - Their function is perfect. We'll see how long until one gets broken. Should give years of satisfaction, but I hope there is a metal changeover kit. Some of those diecast knobs on the market are on the cheap side too.
The dust collector is interesting, and I don't like the design of it. I guess since it is a combo unit, it's the best they could do. It is wierd getting it in to place in the jointer mode. The planer mode is straight forward.
Overall, I am very satified with the unit. You definately have to watch the feedrate with the dual cutters - I wish they would have gone to three cutters on this. However, the unit works as advertised, and I have a lot of pine sawdust on the floor. It is DEFINATELY not a good tool for high production shops. I don't think the professional could beat individual arbor type planers and jointers being separate. However, this is a GREAT tool for the home shop and low production furniture maker like myself. Time will tell, but it has a nice place in my shop.

Comments about JET B3NCH, JJP-10BTOS, 10-in Benchtop Planer/Jointer Combo:
This is my first planer and jointer. It's been a real learning experience. Had to adjust infeed table. Call Jet and they will send you the instructions. They don't tell you how to do it in the manual that comes with the machine. Blades were a little higher than the outfeed table. Had to adjust. Adjusting blades for the first time is frustrating, but once you get it right, it's very cool. Both the jointer and planer seem to work good. Ran a bunch of cherry boards through planer. Took a bunch of light cuts. Came out very nice. Almost no snipe. I attached a shelf to the bottom and I'm going to put a sand bag on it to cut down on the vibration. If you don't mind doing a lot of tweeking, this seems to be a good machine. Even if you don't like tweeking, for the price, I don't think you'll find a better planer/jointer. I'm very glad I bought this. But ask me again in a year.

Lots of adjustment time.
Comments about JET B3NCH, JJP-10BTOS, 10-in Benchtop Planer/Jointer Combo:
I am a beginner in woodworking so I am not prepared to spend alot of money on tools up front. For that reason I chose this product, killing two birds with one stone.
After several hours of adjusting what I could I finally got the results I was expecting. The jointer aspect of this tool was very frustrating. The infeed table and outfeed table are not on the same plane thus resulting in a concave cut.I had to create 'slop' in the slides and holes that hold the tables in place. Then tighten in one fixed position so as I will no longer be able to adjust cut depth. The manufacture did not alow for adjustment for some reason I do not understand.
Beware of the hardware included as it is of poor quality.Very easy to strip the nuts and bolts due to overtightening (had to replace a couple myself).
After spending alot of time the end result was that I was very pleased.I suppose that for the money it really is a nice little machine.

Infeed table out of alignment
By Handyman

Cons

Comments about JET B3NCH, JJP-10BTOS, 10-in Benchtop Planer/Jointer Combo:
The design and precision of workmanship of some aspects of this machine leave a lot to be desired. The upside is the compact size and combination of functions. Similar to a previous poster, the front edge of my infeed table was about 1/16" lower than the back edge, with no way to adjust this. To fix the back-to-front alignment, I custom made some small parts to replace the factory-made ones (infeed table spacer, part # JJP8BT-51), and also converted the infeed table from a depth-adjustable one to one that is fixed in depth at about 1/16", to enable me to adjust the alignment accurately. By design, the infeed table is suspended on two rods that pass between the front and back frame panels and through four infeed table spacers that ride in grooves cut into the frame. These grooves are angled at about 19 degrees downwards and to the right of the machine. Adjusting the depth of cut involves moving the infeed table in or out towards or away from the blades, and in the process sliding the spacers with the rods slightly up or down in their grooves. The spacers consist of a square side that rides in the grooves, and a concentric cylinder that fits into holes in the infeed table. In my replacement parts the cylinder is placed eccentrically with respect to the square, lifting the infeed table in the front and dropping it in the back, resulting in a more level infeed table. The two front spacers are identical to each other, and so are the two back ones. They fit more snugly than the originals, eliminating some of the loose play of the infeed table in the original design. By also tightening the front nuts on the suspension rods, the front of the rods were fixed firmly to the frame, and the back is left free to move as in the original. Now, small adjustments of the height adjustment knob rock the back edge of the infeed table slightly in or out and up or down, and allow for more accurate calibration.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Infeed Table Shipped Out-of-Square
Pros
- Easy To Store
Cons
Best Uses
- In The Workshop
Comments about JET B3NCH, JJP-10BTOS, 10-in Benchtop Planer/Jointer Combo:
I have been wanting/needing a unit like this for several years now and finally picked up my 10" planer/jointer combo unit yesterday. I have yet to use it however!
After assembling everything, I found that the infeed table is out-of-square (left to right) across the cutter head. The table slopes down to the left end of the cutter head, taking a shallower cut near the fence.
The maunal has a troubleshooting section but there is no information about table alignment anywhere.
If I can figure out how to correct this alignment issue, I'm sure I'll get many years of reliable service for my new toy!
